Hello and happy #featurefriday!! This week, I'm to highlight my girl, Brianna Adams, former basketball stud at Evangel University! During her time at Evangel, Brianna was a 3-time All-Conference selection and an All-American Scholar-Athlete. She currently ranks 11th all-time for 3-pointers made in a season, is a member of the 1,000 points club, and ranks 6th all-time for career 3-pointers made. Bri graduated with a BS in Psychology and was Vice President of Psi Chi honors society. Here's what she has to say about her collegiate athletic experiences!
GamePlan: If you could sum up your college athletic experience in one word, what would it be? Brianna: Dedication
GamePlan: What is a lesson you learned while playing college athletics?
Brianna: You can make time for anything in life, it is all about priorities. If you want to be better than your opponents you have to spend more time training and work harder than everyone else.
GamePlan: What is one of the hardest moments you had to get through while playing college sports, and how did you get through it?
Brianna: My freshman year our team had a losing record and we lost most of our conference games. That was really hard for me. I think keeping my competitive spirit and not giving up helped. We recruited many good players and had winning records and went to nationals the following years. I had to accept being a leader even though I was one of the youngest players.
GamePlan: What is one of the hardest moments you had to get through while going through the recruiting process?
Brianna: Choosing a school that would fit my athletic and academic goals. I also had to think about what school I would be able to get playing time at. If I had chosen NCAA D1 instead of NAIA D1 it might have been a few years before I saw playing time.
GamePlan: Such important things to consider!
GamePlan: What is your favorite memory from playing college sports?
Brianna: All my amazing teammates. Your teammates are your family, you go through the best and worst times together.
GamePlan: What advice do you have for student-athletes who are trying to play at the collegiate level?
Brianna: Train hard and be prepared for your sport to be your life. It will be hard but worth it.
GamePlan: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything? If so, what would you do differently?
Brianna: I loved going to a small, Private college. The professors knew your name and it was a really good environment.
GamePlan: What are you up to now?
Brianna: I love to travel! My husband and I have 3 babies we love all under 4 years. I used to coach volleyball and basketball and also do school counseling before staying at home with the kids.
GamePlan: What role did athletics play in helping you get to where you are now?
Brianna: Keep working hard even when you are exhausted. Also, stay competitive in life. Even if it is with yourself to meet goals.
GamePlan: 🙌
I love Bri's experience in choosing a school she knew would be a great fit for her, both in terms of academic setting and school size, as well as for her sport. Playing time is an important factor when choosing your school and should be part of the equation as you make your decision. Thank you, Bri!! Love hearing about your perspective. Tune in next week!
